![]() Flesh-Lain is unaware of all of this natch, but the emergent consciousness (wired-lain) has been interacting with people before now - not just 'God', that's why everyone recognises Lain. 'God' put the emergent consciousness of the wired, Lain, in the real world and tailors it so that she has a place there. Lain is 'Jesus', created by 'God in the wired', the man that surrendered his body to the wired and took advantage of the interactions between the information world and the real world. In any case, the show is more about Lain coming to terms with what it means to be human than about any specific plot. Only not quite, because over the course of the show she also learns how much she likes the world and people, so she stays to experience it. In the end, Lain becomes the God of the wired (I think that sequence with her father is just a symbolic conversation between herself and her, um, superego?), decides that the wired doesn't need a god, and absences herself from the world. It helps to understand that everything Masami Eiri says over the course of the show is either outright lies or badly distorted truths. Meanwhile, Masami Eiri, a former Tachibana employee, recreated the KIDS experiment using software in the form of PHANTOMA, while his acolytes the Knights did the same thing with hardware in the form of Accela and the Psyche processors, all of which is an effort to make himself the God of the Wired. ![]() Lain is an effort to fix the damage that did, using an artificial construct-being (Lain) most likely created from alien tissue. ![]() It fucked up, and the children were thrown across the boundary between the real world and the wired, possibly creating it. ![]() The KIDS project is, as nearly as I can tell, an experiment performed by Tachibana General Labs using technology recovered from the Roswell crash and the psychic potential of children. ![]()
